Marxââ¬â¢s Idea of Expropriation in a Capitalist System - 825 Words
Marx's Idea of Expropriation in a Capitalist System (Essay Sample) Content: NameCourse nameCourse instructorDate of submissionMarxs idea on expropriation in a capitalist systemIntroduction Capitalism is evident and widely used especially on the Libertarian right to imply to an economic system that is based on markets and private properties. Marx presented ideas on expropriation in a capitalist system and equally presented the solution to the problem. This paper is a discussion of my views on the solutions Marx presented and elaborates on whether there is a need for justice to get rid of expropriation. According to Marx, capitalism presents a social system of free markets with two main classes of people. These are the workers in the market who are expected to make products and the owners who are in ownership of the products produced by the workers. Marx employed the term mode of production to imply to the particular organization of the means of production in a given society. He encrypted the term to include equally the organization of labor an d the labor force. Relations of production, on the other hand, imply the relationship between the owners of the production means and workers. Marx identified that the evolution of the history was through the interaction between the production models and production relations. There is a constant evolution of the mode of production as it strives to realize a full production capacity (Perelman, 59). This evolution in turn creates an opposition between the two classes of people in a social system, that is, the workers and the owners as the production relations define them. The capitalist mode of production lays it basis on private ownership of the production means (James, 609). Capitalists are expected to produce commodities to be exchanged in the market, and for them to stay competitive, they extract labor from the workers at the lowest cost possible. The economic interest of the capitalists lies in paying the workers the least possible which is intended to keep him alive for continued production. With time, the workers understand that their economic interest is evident by preventing the capitalists from exploiting them in such a manner. According to Marx, this capitalist system will at the result in the inherent opposition between the employees and the employers who are owners of means of production. This will in turn give rise to a struggle of class between the production relations and result in the overthrow of capitalism by the workers. The workers will then replace the capitalists production mode and come up with a mode of production that applies collective ownership of production means, which is known as communism (Tom, 57). Marx believes that for the market dependence and modern growth to be evident from the production relations, it was imperative for specific producers to commit themselves to being market dependent through specialized production for the market. This was at the expense of expropriating or removing the peasants from their land so that their labor power can be transformed into the production of commodities. Because of the challenges the expropriation of the capitalists system presented to the workers, Marx was against the system. He was therefore in the constant push for a change of the system to a better system that collectively helped all the parties as a solution to the end of the challenges that came alongside expropriation of the capitalist. I think justice requires getting rid of the expropriation of the capitalists system as Marx defines it. This is because expropriation of the capitalists resulted in the alienation of the workers. Under the capitalists system of production, a worker was alienated from oneself, from what he does, and from the other workers (James, 611). However, according to Marx, labor should be central to the self-conception and sense of wellbeing for any human being. Again, in the capitalists' mode of production, a worker is alienated from the products he manufactures as well as the productio n process that is the only means of survival he has. Justice, therefore, ought to get rid of the expropriation of the capitalist s...
